what is HTML Sitemap? A Simple guide for shopify stores.

Welcome to SEO LAB!

In this guide, you’ll learn how to set up an HTML sitemap

HTML Sitemap – Overview

The HTML Sitemap section in SEOLab lets you create a human-readable sitemap page that lists important URLs from your Shopify store (products, collections, blogs, pages, and custom links).

1. Sitemap Status

  • Toggle (On/Off)
    • When it’s On, SEOLab generates and updates the HTML sitemap page.
    • When it’s Off, the sitemap page is not generated/updated.
  • View Sitemap button
    • Opens the live HTML sitemap page so you can quickly check how it looks on your store.

2. Build HTML Sitemap for

You can choose which types of content should appear in the sitemap:

  • Products
    • When checked, all products will be included in the HTML sitemap.
  • Collections
    • When checked, all collections will be added to the sitemap.
  • Blogs
    • When checked, each blog (blog group) will be listed in the sitemap.
  • Blog Posts
    • When checked, individual blog posts will be included.
  • Pages
    • When checked, store pages (e.g., About, Contact, FAQ) will be added to the sitemap.

Each line also explains that once the option is selected, that content type is automatically added to the HTML sitemap generated by the app.

3. Limit items to be shown

  • A numeric field (e.g., 10) that controls how many items are shown for each section on the sitemap page.
  • Useful if a store has many products/posts and you want to keep the sitemap shorter.

  • “Add links” button
    • Lets you manually add extra URLs that are not automatically pulled by Shopify (for example, external blogs, landing pages, or special campaign pages).
  • URL field
    • Paste the full URL you want to show in the sitemap.
  • Title field
    • The text that will be displayed as the clickable link on the sitemap page.
  • Delete (trash) icon
    • Removes a custom link from the sitemap.
    • After making changes (toggling content types, limit, or adding/removing custom links), click Save to apply the settings and update the HTML sitemap.
    • Here are the benefits of an HTML sitemap:
    • Helps visitors find pages easily
    • Makes website easy to navigate
    • Helps Google understand your website better
    • Makes sure important pages are not missed
    • Improves overall SEO and visibility
